There are many rf feeder cables in base station, the most common of which are 1/2" jumper cable 7/8" main feeder cable. These cables connect antennas and equipment cabinets. Their integrity is vital to the functionality of the whole base station, therefore, we must use something called feeder clamp to fix cables tight.
Feeder Clamp – A Small Tool
Unlike other components for bts installation, like big-enough antenna or steel tower, feeder clamp is quite inconspicuous. A common feeder clamp for 1/2" feeder cable is about 5*3*7cm in size, weighs less than 100g. A typical bts tower consumes about two hundred feeder clamps, and you have to look very carefully on the cable to find its existence.
A feeder clamp comprise of two simple parts: a metal clamp and a non-metal saddle, connected by a threaded bar. The metal clamp is usually made of stainless steel, while the saddle is made of plastic or elastomer rubber.
Feeder Clamp – Big Use
Feeder clamp maybe small, but it is very important. All feeder cable coming out of bts cabinet goes on cabling tray. The feeder cables lying on cabling tray are all fixed with feeder clamp; otherwise, these feeder cables will slide and twist. In some case, this will even affect the signal transmission! As the saying goes, "Do not judge a person by his/her look", for feeder clamps, it is "Do not judge a component by its size" for sure!
